Spring Tryout and Summer Information

 Physicals : Volleyball team physicals are scheduled for March 9th, at 5:30 at First Care South. You should bring$10.00, cash only.

 

Tuesday 4 on 4 League : Beginning Tuesday March 30th and each Tuesday through April 27th, all new and returning players will practice from 4:00-6:00. If you have a conflict with a FHS spring sport, you are excused from those practices. The first hour will be skill training on a specific skill. Then you and your partner will compete with different teams in 4 on 4 matches.

PreScheduling CAP: Students should enroll in first period JV/Varsity volleyball, if you will be a junior or senior in 2010. Incoming sophomores will be instructed ion whether to enroll in May on whether to enroll in first period or sophomore 4th period volleyball. Schedule changes may be made as needed after tryouts/summer practices. High School CAP meeting dates are April 1st and 2nd for upcoming juniors and seniors. 

Tryouts: You must be enrolled, have a current physical, and have completed the FHS Athletic Packet Prior to trying out for FHS Volleyball. Please contact Coach Phelan if you did not play in 2009 but would like to tryout this spring. Players will be assigned to one or more of 3 teams, sophomore, JV, Varsity.

May 4th, 11th, 18th: 4:00-6:00 Tryouts for 2010 Volleydogs

May 25th: Team Practice: Camp Forms are due at this time 4:00-6:00

Late Tryouts: July 5th : 9:00-12:00 for athletes who missed May tryouts for soccer/softball/move ins

What’s expected of you during the summer?

Summer Practice : There will be no team practices or workouts scheduled before July 5th. Mandatory team practices will be scheduled two times a week in July and every weekday beginning August 3rd. Failure to attend mandatory team practices will result in M.U.D. (make-up day) conditioning and could affect your playing time. Detailed practice schedules will be given to each player as summer approaches.  

   

Other Expenses:

  • (Required Team Camp: Mondays/Thursdays 9:00 to 10:00 at FHS July/August) $80.00,
  • (Optional) Sophomore Team will attend the University of Arkansas Team Camp July 12-14th, 2010. The cost is $165.00. You will be instructed on how to register online after tryouts.
  • (Optional) The Junior Varsity and Varsity teams will attend camp, July 27th to 29th. The cost will be $230.00, and you will be given a promotional code to register online after tryouts. 
  • Mizuno Wave Rally Volleyball Shoes (White/Black): $72.00/Mizuno LR-6 white kneepads-Checks payable to Best Sports, will be due May 25th.
  • Team t-shirts and socks: TBD

 

FAYETTEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TRYOUT INFORMATION

 

TRYOUT FORMAT: PLAYERS WILL BE RANKED ACCORDING TO A 300 POINT SYSTEM, AND WILL BE PLACED ON TEAM BASED ON YOUR RESULTS AND THE POSITION YOU PLAY. ALL PLAYERS WILL BE PLACED ONTO ONE OR MORE OF THREE TEAMS, SOPHOMORE, JV, AND VARSITY. THE VARSITY AND JV TEAM WILL CONSIST OF A MINIMUM OF TWO SETTERS, THREE MIDDLE BLOCKERS, THREE OUTSIDE HITTERS, ONE OPPOSITE, AND TWO DEFENSIVE SPECIALISTS/LIBEROS.  THE TOP 10-12 PLAYERS REGARDLESS OF AGE WILL BE PLACED ON THE VARSITY ALONG WITH SENIORS WITH A MAXIMUM OF 16 PLAYERS TOTAL DRESSING OUT FOR THE VARSITY TEAM. THE NEXT 8 RANKED JUNIOR AND SOPHOMORE PLAYERS WILL BE PLACED ON THE JV ALONG WITH ANY REMAINING JUNIORS AND SENIORS. THE SOPHOMORE TEAM WILL CONSIST OF REMAINING SOPHOMORE PLAYERS ALONG WITH SOPHOMORE JV PLAYERS.THE FORMAT OF TRYOUTS WILL INCLUDE PHYSICAL AND VOLLEYBALL SKILLS TESTING, ALONG WITH GAME PLAY STATISTICS.
